From Argentine beaches of Mar del Plata to Europe, and now New York city. Category: Animation. Carlos Lascano.
The eagerness to live new experiences, explore other worlds, other people and cultures, pushed me to leave my hometown. I never felt the distance in a negative way and I am not thinking of going back either. Of course I miss my family, and everything related to my childhood. Maybe what I miss is certain time that is gone now.
I was born in La Perla neighborhood, Mar del Plata, Argentina, 2 blocks from the ocean. I used to spend hours watching the sea, creating stories in my head. Some of them became movies and comics with the time. Others are still waiting to see the light.
I’m living in Madrid now, at the other side of that same ocean, with new stories in my mind. I grew up in a family of lawyers and artists. Studying law gave me positive stuff: method, behavior, a very pragmatic way to analyze and see the world, which is the perfect balance for my bohemian artist side. I never actually worked as a lawyer, but during the production process of my films, I do think as one.
It was really fun to watch and pick the finalist videos. I was shocked by the hi tech quality and the dynamic storyline. Even though my decision was clear from the beginning, I think most of the finalists will build incredible careers in this business.
Making animated films is a very difficult activity which requires a lot of time. For my selection I personally looked for something that in this field is very hard to find: “communication”. It’s so all about the technique that is very common to forget about the story. So I was looking for the balance between the idea, the message, the emotion and the technique.
I have been in touch with the Vimeo community for a few years now, since I uploaded my film “A short Love story in stop motion”. Thanks to that, the video has been seen by many people from all over the world. I use Vimeo to promote every single new work I have. They have an amazing platform, a big global showroom for the creatives.
